Macon, GA—Former Senator Eric Johnson, Republican candidate for Governor, today announced his plans to reform the state budget process. As Governor, Johnson will instruct agency heads to implement zero based budgeting and partner with the private sector to ensure that state government focuses on the most essential core functions.

“As Governor, I will direct all state agency heads to implement zero based budgeting so that I, the legislature, and Georgia taxpayers will know exactly what services government is providing and what it costs to provide these services,” said Johnson. “Like the private sector, government should be in a position to make informed decisions based on the total actual costs of different programs, not just changes in expenditures.”

Print is dead, or so they tell me. Newspapers all over the country are struggling to stay afloat. From the New York Times to the Los Angeles Times, papers are laying off staff at an alarming rate, and not just paperboys and janitors either.  Even the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has recently let a lot of folks go.  There has been a lot of speculation in the media about why this is happening, and since the dead tree press is eternally tied to politics, I don’t feel out of place taking as swing as to why. Tomorrow at noon, in front of the courthouse in Albany, Ken Hodges will be kicking his campaign for Attorney General into gear. Hodges served as Dougherty County District Attorney for years prior to stepping down to re-enter private practice. Of course, that’s wasn’t for long, as this was apparently the prize he had his mind set on.
