Karen Handel and Liberty, Part 5: Jeff’s Conclusions

Now that we’ve examined Ms. Handel’s issues page via Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 of this series, let’s wrap it up with my conclusions.

Judging Ms. Handel solely on the statements on the Issues page of KarenHandel.com, it is clear that Ms. Handel is a Statist. She also raises just a hint of potentially theocratic beliefs, which while being something to watch more carefully, is not yet true cause for concern.

We saw time after time where Ms. Handel supports a State solution to problems that are better left with individuals or local governments, such as on Transportation, abortion, marriage, and others.

We also saw a number of instances where Ms. Handel is at least saying the right things, such as her desire for healthcare to come into the 21st century, zero-based budgeting, fat in government, and her support of the 2nd Amendment.

Perhaps the single most troubling theme throughout Ms. Handel’s issue statements is her clear support of continuing in the footsteps of the current Governor. He is not the subject of these posts, but he has done little to help this State and much to hurt it, so I would prefer the next Governor to be willing to step away from his policies.

In the end though, while I have substantive disagreements on many of the issues, I will at least give her this, and I’ve personally told her this: At least she’s better than the Ox. If the GOP Primary comes down to Karen Handel vs John Oxendine, my vote will be for Karen Handel based on the examination of the two candidates’ issue pages thus far.

I need more info on Mrs. Handel. I have no idea were she stands on many things, I just read she is in favor of our right to keep and bear arms this is a great thing, but I don’t know were she stands on free market issue’s or if she believes that government is the answer or that government is the problem? I don’t much like statists, I am a free American and want my country to remain free, I also don’t want any treaties signed by Obama’s admin with the UN, even if it appears harmless it will not be, the UN has been trying to take our 2nd Amendment freedoms away from us Americans for decades and we must not allow Obama to be able to sign any treaties with the UN about our small arms and our right to carry them in our country, Obama and his people swore and oath to up hold our Constitution and I see Obama chipping away at our freedoms everyday and he is out right breaking his oath of office yet no one is getting in his face to force him to obey his oath of office, will Mrs. Handel put Obama in his rightful place? I need more info on Mrs. Handel if possible, thank you. I want smaller government, more freedoms, and I want my rights left alone and it is not our fault and it is not our guns that are causing Mexico to fight these drug cartels. leave our freedoms alone, the UN and the Mexican pres. are doing all they can to infringe on our legal rights in our country, this must not ever happen. right now Obama has taken over big tabacco and that to me is unconstitutional and I will not put up with this much more. we must force the Obama admin to obey our Constitutional laws now.

Edward: I urge you to take a look at the rest of the Karen Handel and Liberty series. That’s the best information we currently have, based on her website. We hope to have interviews with all of the gubernatorial candidates prior to the election, which will give us a good bit more in the way of specifics.

Like you, I’m defiant in defense of my 2nd Amendment rights, and I can not support any candidate who isn’t ready to defend them. So far, Mrs. Handel’s stands on 2A is less than what I’d like to see from a candidate, though better than it could have been.
