Phoebe violates it’s own charter [ March 13, 2010 – 7:56 am] by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

The Albany Herald reports this morning of Margurete Burns, an 81 year old Albany woman, who suffered a head injury back in February. After being initially treated in Douglasville, Burns returned home. The next day, she got a phone call telling her to get medical treatment immediately. So, she went to Palmyra. The ER doctor apparently felt she needed a neurosurgeon, so he contacted Phoebe. They allegedly refused to take her, so she was airlifted to Macon.

Now, let’s ignore the fact that there are laws stating that hospitals can’t refuse to treat people, and go right to Phoebe’s own charter. Read More …

Morales v Handel or The Origin of the US DOJ Ruling on Voter Verification[ June 11, 2009 – 6:32 pm]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

I’ve recently stumbled across the document started the process that brought about the DOJ letter I have already written about. That document is the North GA US District Court ruling in the Morales v Handel case, and this ruling is very enlightening on the Secretary of State’s efforts to disenfranchise US citizens.

To those who have challenged me to state a single name of someone disenfranchised by the Secretary of State’s voter verification ruling, I name Mr. Jose Morales.

To those saying this is a political ploy by the Obama Administration, I point out that this ruling came down 9 days before the November 2008 election that Mr. Obama won and with just under three full months left in President Bush’s administration.

A Respectable Joke[ June 11, 2009 – 3:38 pm]by Bill Waller Posted in » National

The Obama administration is now admitting that our troops are reading the Miranda Rights to captured enemy combatants on the battlefield. So now we are not only turning our back on enhanced interrogation methods, but we are actually telling the violent extremists, the president’s new code word for terrorists, that they have the right to remain silent. Unbelievable!

City Should Sign Wildcats Immediately[ June 11, 2009 – 3:00 pm]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County

There are, in my experience, few no-brainer situations in this world. You obviously say yes to a date with Kate Beckinsale, or a game of one-on-one with Kobe Bryant, or even a game of one-on-one with Kate Beckinsale. And, as a government you should never, ever turn your back on a good thing. The South Georgia Wildcats definitely qualify as a “good thing” in anyone’s book. Read More …

Cash For Clunkers Bad For Poor[ June 11, 2009 – 12:00 pm]by Tom Posted in » National

With the House of Representatives flush with pride in their recent passage of the Cash for Clunkers bill, which provides tax breaks for up to $4,500 when you trade in your old vehicle on a new, higher gas mileage vehicle. It’s just a shame for them that they’re screwing over poor Americans just so they can win points with the environmental lobby. Read More …

Who Says There’s No Pork In Local Politics[ June 11, 2009 – 8:00 am]by Tom Posted in » Albany Dougherty County, Editorial

At state and local levels, budget committees are purging costs at a near record pace. Left and right, they rip through expenditures like Edward Scissorhands pruning a shrub. It’s impressive how the State of Georgia was able to purge somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 billion dollars. Many communities are claiming that they cut millions with no drop in services. In his post on Karen Handel, Jeff brings up a good point. If they can provide services without the money being spent, then why was it being spent in the first place? Read More …

Karen Handel and Liberty, Part 5: Jeff’s Conclusions[ June 11, 2009 – 6:19 am]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

Now that we’ve examined Ms. Handel’s issues page via Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 of this series, let’s wrap it up with my conclusions.

Judging Ms. Handel solely on the statements on the Issues page of KarenHandel.com, it is clear that Ms. Handel is a Statist. She also raises just a hint of potentially theocratic beliefs, which while being something to watch more carefully, is not yet true cause for concern.
