Proms and Lesbians In the Bible Belt [ March 12, 2010 – 1:14 pm] by Jeff Posted in » General

I don’t know if y’all have seen this one, but over the past couple of days a story has come out about a certain high school senior in Mississippi. Seems this student likes to date girls and wants to wear a tux to prom.

The problem? The student’s name is Constance rather than Conrad.

Yes, Constance is a lesbian, and rather than just showing up at her prom wearing a tux with her girlfriend on her arm, she checked with the school to make sure she would be allowed to attend when she did. (There is a bit of debate over what she should have done here, and I’ve heard from both sides. Personally, I think she probably did the smart thing at this point in the story.)

The school refused, and when she threatened a lawsuit, the school cancelled prom altogether.

Is A Sign Ordinance The Best Idea?[ June 9, 2009 – 12:00 pm]by Tom Posted in » Local

As we find ourselves even deeper in this horrible economic climate, the City of Albany is striving to help us, it’s beloved citizens, by doing what?  Ah yes, penalize small businesses because their signs are a “distraction”.  Yeah, that makes sense.

You see, as we find companies moving out like Merck and Cooper Tire have recently done, we need our small businesses more and more.  A sign ordinance like the City of Albany is currently enforcing does nothing more than target those small businesses with regulations that serve no other purpose.  So much for sensible government.

Chrysler Sale On Hold[ June 9, 2009 – 8:30 am]by Tom Posted in » National

Yesterday afternoon, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg issued a temporary stay against the impending sale of Chrysler to Italian auto maker Fiat.  Now, this may seem like an anti-free market move and therefore I should be against this, right?  Well, no, it’s actually not and I’m glad she did it. Nuclear Test[ June 9, 2009 – 8:13 am]by Bill Waller Posted in » Editorial, National

On May 25 of this year, North Korea tested a nuclear weapon as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb. This test threatens to further isolate North Korea from the rest of the world.

I’m not sure how more economic boycotts will affect North Korea because they are already an isolated country depending very little on the rest of the world. I’ve been told that North Korea relies on funding from the United States and will often ramp up such tests for more “hush” money. Was this the purpose of the testing or have they spotted weakness in the Obama administration and they are trying to exploit that?

Karen Handel and Liberty, Part 1: Introduction, Economy, Education, and Transporation[ June 9, 2009 – 5:30 am]by Jeff Posted in » 2010 Campaigns

Note on the following: All views expressed are my own unless explicitly stated otherwise.

KarenHandel.com now has text in addition to the video on the issues page, so now it is time to begin ‘Karen Handel and Liberty’.

As with ‘John Oxendine and Liberty‘, I will go point by point on the Issues page. (For the record, he has since removed the pages I referenced in ‘Ox and Liberty’.)

Karen Handel is clearly a Statist, and there is only a whisper of theocracy on her Issues page – specifically as it relates to abortion and marriage, and even then no particular religious belief is explicitly mentioned, but we’ll see that in a later post.
