HDGV: High Definition Government

I spoke with Gary Horlacher today. Mr. Horlacher is a Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, and from what I could tell over the phone he seems to be very genuine about the points in the above video.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit the quality needs some work, and Mr. Horlacher noted that even before I had actually had a chance to view it. His current plans are to have an actual video, maybe with him talking about these points rather than having this PowerPoint style presentation. I highly recommend that – indeed, from my own training, this is simply FAR too much text to be on a good PowerPoint. But different people have different standards on that, not a big deal there. Video with him talking though would defintely be preferable to this format.

That said, take a few minutes and read every word of this presentation. I really think Mr. Horlacher is on to something here – indeed, he is sounding very libertarian in a couple of places, if not throughout the whole thing. Obviously, we here at SWGAPolitics.com push hard for transparency in government, and apparently Mr. Horlacher wants the same things in that area. The one thing that I would push for more than he does is online availability of every vote and decision made by any elected or regulatory body. To the level that I want even the committee vote records of the General Assembly online for public disclosure.

I know nothing about Mr. Horlacher other than what I learned talking to him today and from viewing this video, and I’m not about to make a judgement on whether to support him as a candidate or even as a man based on just those things. I will say that he appeared to be very sincere, honest, and knowledgeable on the phone, and his video makes some great points about transparency in government.

I can also honestly say that I look forward to hearing what else he has to say, and I encourage each of you to at least give him a glance.
