An Unlikely Ally

The times, they are a-changing it seems. Of all the people I expected to make a stand in favor of gay marriage on any level, Dick Cheney is pretty much at the bottom of the list. But sure enough, his recent comments actually echo something I’ve said time and time again: “I think, you know, freedom means freedom for everyone”.

Who knew?

Now, there are fundamental differences between Cheney’s position and mine. Personally, I don’t think it’s a state issue but a human one and therefore it transcend state borders. However, I’m willing to compromise with states making the decision themselves under one condition…that fair faith and common clause is in full effect. A marriage in Iowa should be recognized in Georgia, even if Georgia refuses to allow the marriages to be performed within it’s borders.

It’s just a shame that the former Vice President doesn’t feel the same way regarding many other issues. Freedom is freedom, and not just for the freedoms you like. Mr. Cheney is a big supporter of the PATRIOT Act, which ignores the fourth amendment. That’s a big, big thing in my book that ignores freedom. Still, Mr. Cheney is making a move in the right direction towards true liberty, so I welcome him to the cause of liberty.

Now, I just hope he keeps moving in this direction.

We need all the help we can get in regaining our liberty and freedom. Read the English version of Pravda article that states ‘It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed,…”

I know you will agree with quote about education from the same article “First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their “right” to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our “democracy”. Pride blind the foolish.”

Americans need to wake up and get active to hold their politicans accountable.

Donna: I was going to do a little more research on that one and post about it this evening :)

I’m looking forward to it Tom. You are a much better writer and will do it justice. Thanks! I am saddened that more Americans aren’t aware that their freedoms are being taken away. This note about it will just be an appetizer for the main course!
