Last week the Lee County Commissioners managed to pass a balanced budget without a tax increase, without laying-off a county employee and still give them a cost-of-living increase.
Now if only the Feds could do the same.
There are 2 bills working their way through the House and Senate, Cap & Trade (HR 2454) and Health Care Reform (S334), both which will raise the taxes all Lee County residents will pay.
Cap & Trade will eliminate 2.2 jobs for every green job created. It is estimated to raise your electric rates $3100 per year, raise your fuel costs 74% and everything else that requires energy in the making.
To pay for the Health Care Reform, they want to raise the excise tax up to 300% on soda, beer, wine, liquor and any other drink that uses sugar. Congress has since determined that will not be enough to pay for this program. Now they are talking about adding a 25% VAT (sales tax) to everything you buy or make.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to pay for all these new programs and still live.
There are many groups fighting these 2 bills, you can too. Take 5 minutes out of your day today, make a local call to Representative Sanford Bishops office and tell him NO, he currently is supporting the tax increases. His phone number is 229-439-8067. Our 2 state senators are not supporting these bills; let’s give them all the help we can.
