An Airing of Difference

So now, after all the mess that the Albany delegation to the General Assembly has made in the press, WALB reported tonight that there has been a clearing of the air…maybe.

At an luncheon sponsored by the Albany-Dougherty Chamber of Commerce, the delegation supposedly aired their differences and many are hopeful that this will smooth the way for cooperation next year.  Unfortunately, I can’t help but believe that this is nothing more than wishful thinking.

The primary reason is the dialog aired on WALB’s video, and quoted in the above linked story.  There is no mea culpa by anyone.  Instead, there’s everyone talking about how they need to work together.  Yep…I don’t doubt that one bit.  Unfortunately, it takes more than that.

Winfred Dukes, Freddie Powell-Sims, and Carol Fullerton are Democrats and Ed Rynders is a Republican.  There is going to be some issues that they won’t be able to work together on.  It’s inevitable.  When they talk about putting things aside, I can’t help but believe that they mean for everyone else to put things aside.

Yes, we need our delegates to put aside their differences, but will they?  I’m not particularly confident that they will.   Talk is cheap when you’re in front of the voters.  What counts is what they’ll do when they’re up in Atlanta next year.
