The Idiocy of the FDA

With what the Obama Administration has referred to as a “health care crisis”, the Food and Drug Administration is taking aim at what I’m sure is truly a horrid culprit who is trying to undermine our entire health care system and kill millions while convincing the people that it’s “healthy”. That’s right, the FDA is taking aim at Cheerios!

The FDA apparently doesn’t dispute the idea that Cheerios can help reduce cholesterol.  But instead, they’re upset with how someone could interpret the label as meaning Cheerios was designed for that purpose.  You see, while the FDA’s original purpose was to protect the public from things like radioactive beverages and cosmetics that could blind you, they now regulate things like labels and free speech.

The government seems genuinely concerned about the health of Americans.  There are councils like the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, The Department of Health and Human Services, and who knows what else.  They want Americans to be healthier, and apparently the science backs up the idea that Cheerios can help with that.  Does it matter whether people think it’s designed for that purpose?

Our tax dollars get wasted repeatedly.  Of that, we can always rest assured.  However small the amount is, this particular waste of tax dollars is among the worst.  There are criticisms that the FDA actually inhibits the introduction of new life saving treatments due to it’s expensive testing protocols.   However, those protocols are there for good intentions.  I fail to see any good intentions from something is ridiculous as targeting Cheerios for what someone may or may not infer from the label.

This nation has real problems, and we need real solutions.  The FDA sending a letter to General Mills regarding Cheerios ain’t even approaching a “real solution” to any “real problem”.
