State Rep Dukes Gets His Response

The last time I reported on State Rep Dukes, his contention was that if the Leadership had really wanted to send him a message about his comments regarding Delta and Gulfstream and his votes on key bills, such as the DOT reorganization bill, they would have cut the funding in the budget for the Darton College project – which is in his district – and not the Albany State project – which is not.

Well, that post was 8 days ago, and now we hear that Governor Perdue has used his line-item veto power to cut the Darton project from the budget as well.

Do you get the point now, Rep Dukes? Continue reading State Rep Dukes Gets His Response

Can private citizens close public roads?

Batts Rd Location in Lee County GA

Batts Rd Location in Lee County GA

We have a situation ongoing in Lee County that has attracted quite a bit of attention. A property owner that owns all of the property on either side of a particular road wants this road closed to the public, yet wants the County to continue to pay for its upkeep. Quick, Get A Band-Aid Before July!

President Obama says that he wants to have major healthcare reform on the House floor no later than July. In a news story from Bloomberg, the president says that we must do this now while “…the stars are aligned” for Congress to pass legislation to reform health care.

For those of us that value choice, personal freedom, and the strides made by science in our private health care system, it appears that the stars are stacked against us!

It’s about the attitude

“If I’ve got to do it, then so do they,” is a common sentiment. Here in Georgia, this response is heard on many subjects. For example, it’s thrown about in reference to seatbelt laws. “I have to wear my seatbelt in my car, so people in trucks should have to wear them too!” In Dougherty County, I hear the same argument in reference to school uniforms. “My son has to wear the uniform, so everyone should.” I’m no unsympathetic to that either. The rules should apply equally unless otherwise stated, so basically I can see the point on school unforms, but not so much on truck’s and seatbelts.

The Idiocy of the FDA

With what the Obama Administration has referred to as a “health care crisis”, the Food and Drug Administration is taking aim at what I’m sure is truly a horrid culprit who is trying to undermine our entire health care system and kill millions while convincing the people that it’s “healthy”. That’s right, the FDA is taking aim at Cheerios!

Doesn’t Make Cents…

I called my stock broker yesterday and asked him what he was buying. He replied, “…ammunition and canned goods.”

Legally I need to state that you should not take financial advice from me. I was once employed by Merrill Lynch as a financial consultant, but that was ages ago.

With that said, something fishy is going on with the market today.

Sign Ordinance: Albany’s assualt on property rights

WALB has a piece on the crackdown of the Albany sign ordinance (video here). Now, I haven’t liked the sign ordinance since the day it was enacted. Personally, I feel that it’s your yard/business property so do what you want with it. What really is getting to me is the idea that the city of Albany will “permit” me to have up to three signs in my yard. Gee, isn’t that nice?
