No Matter Who’s Fault, We’re Stuck

The President has said that this isn’t his deficit, because he inherited this mess. To some extent, he’s right. However, it is most definitely his deficit, because he’s the President if nothing else. Today, MSNBC is reporting that the deficit will top $1.8 Trillion. If that sounds like a big number, keep in mind that it’s more than four times last year’s record deficit. That basically means that the United States will borrow nearly 50 cents for every dollar, or about 1/3 of the budget.

President Obama has said repeatedly that this isn’t his deal, that he inherited this.  Oh how this makes me long for the days of Harry Truman, which I wasn’t even alive for.  Mr. Obama, the buck stops with you.  Frankly, the American people don’t care who’s fault it is right now, they just want out of this mess.  Me?  I care more about the idea of deflecting blame than anything else.

However, since that seems impossible, I have to say that it isPresident Obama’s fault.  The deficit is currently based on ideology that claims the best way for economic recovery is for the government to throw money at it.  As I’ve already outlined, it probably will solve the immediate problem.  However, we’ll get get again in a few years and have to deal with this mess all over again.

President Obama is good at saying how this is George W. Bush’s fault, and how It’ll take Barrack H. Obama to solve the crisis.  Unfortunately, little has been done that shows anything approaching a sound decision that will get us out of this crisis.  Instead, we get pork projects that are now called “stimulus”, like the American people are to stupid to not realize it’s the same blasted thing.

Thanks to the $1 trillion dollar spending spree President Obama has been on since taking office, I can’t see how this isn’t his fault in some way, shape, or form.  So no, I don’t believe him.  I’ll argue until I’m blue in the face that it’s his fault if that’s what it takes.  But it won’t fix things long term, and we’re doomed until something does change it.  Forever.

If ‘fault’ is to be allocated I would say everyone in office for the last 20 years has to own some of the responsibility. That is not going to solve the problem. It is time for the politicians to step up and do what is right for the country, not what will garner them a few votes come election day. Hopefully the electorate is more informed now and more active and will push their officials to make the right choices. If we don’t we deserve what we get.
